President Nangolo Mbumba has formally unveiled the commemorative Hage Geingob N$60 note. The new note is legal tender alongside the existing currency. The new banknote will only be printed once-off, designating it as a collector’s item.

The central bank plans to release an entirely new range of Namibian currencies in June this year. Johannes !Gawagab, central bank governor, said the new currency range will have new security and enhancement elements.

“This denomination reflects Geingob’s commitment of 60 years to the Namibian nation. The new note will be a once-off print and is to be considered a collectors’ item that also serves as legal tender,” said !Gawaxab at the launch of the banknote today at Mercure Hotel.

Dangos Geingos, the daughter of late President Hage Geingob, expressed her pride and gratitude that so many people are continuing to commemorate her father’s legacy.
