Indonesia officially introduced the 75,000-rupiah commemorative banknote (B616a) on 17 August 2020, marking the 75th anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence (1945–2020). Issued by Bank Indonesia, the note was released as legal tender and circulated alongside regular rupiah denominations, symbolizing both national pride and modern monetary design.

The front side of the banknote prominently features Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta, Indonesia’s founding fathers. Their portraits honor the leadership that guided the nation through independence. Surrounding design elements incorporate traditional patterns and red-white tones inspired by the Indonesian flag, reinforcing the theme of unity and sovereignty.

The reverse side reflects Indonesia’s diversity and future aspirations. It depicts children in traditional costumes from various regions, representing cultural plurality, alongside a golden map of the Indonesian archipelago. A satellite motif above the map highlights Indonesia’s progress in science and technology, symbolizing a forward-looking nation.

Printed by Perum Peruri, the note incorporates advanced security features such as color-shifting inks, microtext, and sophisticated background patterns. Beyond its monetary value, the 75,000-rupiah note stands as a collectible artifact—capturing Indonesia’s historical journey, cultural richness, and vision for the future in a single commemorative design.
